Sony XA30 Cinema Camera Kits

The Sony FX30 Cinema Camera is a S35mm cinema camera in a mirrorless body, it records in 4k and 1080p up to 120fps. This camera can record 10bit 4:2:2 high quality files, features a dual ISO sensor (800 - 2500) and has a removable audio handle which provides professional XLR audio inputs with physical controls. It is also provided with a shotgun microphone.

The camera can be configured to operate in a full auto manner (by engaging auto exposure, auto ISO, auto white balance and auto focus) if needed. It’s a great documentary video platform, provided with a fast 30mm F/1.4 lens (roughly equivalent to a "nifty fifty" on S35) which keeps the kit very small, light and ready for lowlight unobtrusive doc work. (Other e-mount lenses can be used, some can be found at the CDA.)

        GEM Lab Quick Start Guide
*Note this guide is denser than most of the others, more of a quick reference.

The Sony A7sII is a compact mirrorless camera with high quality image and video recording and extreme lowlight, it records in 4k and 1080p. This camera is like a DSLR style camera and provides a more “cinematic” look to video recording and has many advanced features that image driven filmmakers love. (Extended dynamic range, Log recording modes, advanced stabilization features, advanced autofocus features, shallow depth of field.)

This camera is good for most any shooting situation, but requires some real-world experience with similar cameras to properly operate as well as a knowledge of photography.

This is the XLR-K1M an audio accessory for the Sony A7sII mirrorless camera, it connects via the cameras hotshoe mount (found on top of the camera). When connected, it provides two XLR inputs with physical controls for attenuation control, volume control and 48v Phantom Power. (Note, providing phantom power to microphones using this adapter will lower camera battery life.)

This is a kit that comes with various accessories one would expect to find on a proper cinema camera, with the goal of adapting the ergonomics of the A7sII for a wider set of recording situations.

The kit has a modular camera cage with a wooden grip and video record button. This cage also has a quick release system for 15mm rods, to facilitate handheld, or on tripod use, of a follow focus. (It is also compatible with the XLR adapter as it has a built in shoe mount.)

The other half of the kit is a follow focus kit. This includes a follow focus with hard stops (adjustable stop points on the follow focus to allow the user to set the throw range of a photographic lens ), various follow focus accessories and a 15mm rod plate that provides a tripod mount for the follow focus without using the camera cage.

This kit requires accreditation from the lab technician in order to be reserved through Webcheckout.
