Laura Laabs is a PhD candidate at the DFG research training program "Configurations of Film" at Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. Her dissertation project is concerned with video game paratexts.

Following Genette's metaphor of the "threshold" both in its discursive and its material dimensions, Laura Laabs analyzes intro sequences, character editors, tech demos, and cardboard boxes, and asks how the multiple beginnings of video games establish ludic regimes and narrative logics by negotiating games' and player' positions in the wider landscapes of play.
