Hey there!

Welcome to the technician's blog here at the GEM Lab. My name is Teagan and in addition to being the technician of this media lab for over 8 years, and serving as the technician at the Feminist Media Studio, I also have a Masters in Film Production and nearing a decade of professional experience as an independent filmmaker and video editor.

My goal with these blog posts is to create a reference for people taking research creation / media creation courses connected with the lab as well as to provide more in depth discussions on topics that often feature heavily in my yearly workshop series.

Given the wide range of experience levels in the user base of the GEM Lab, ranging from complete beginners to ethnographic filmmakers, we're going to be trying to "split the uprights" here. Providing a (hopefully not overwhelming) complete beginners explanation as well as pointing to more advanced thoughts or aspects of the topics discussed.

Additionally, these tutorials and explainers are mainly aimed at those doing documentary or ethnographic work, so they focus on an approach centered on using existing or natural light.

I'll try to keep a relatively well grouped index of the topics covered so far in the series below, happy creating!
