Film Handling & Digitization Workshop

This three-day workshop is a hands-on introduction to motion picture film handling for preservation and access. Participants will inspect, repair and view 16mm films using a variety of equipment. They will also scan a film using the Blackmagic Cintel scanner and begin a digital restoration. In the process, participants will learn the basics of film preservation and archival theory.


Presence is mandatory for all three sessions (Friday, Saturday, and one of the Monday sessions)


Friday, March 8 - 1:00pm – 5:00pm 

Saturday, March 9 - 10:00am – 5:00pm

Monday. March 11 - 10:00am - 1:00pm or 2:00pm - 5:00pm

Spots in the workshop are limited, so we will be prioritizing students whose research and/or student work relates to the skills. Only current Concordia fine arts students are eligible.
