Giacomo Abbruzzese is in Montreal to present his award-winning film Disco Boy (Silver Bear for Cinematography, Berlin Film Festival) at Cinema Public (screened on February 7). In this artist talk Abbruzzese will discuss the making of his first film, America (2022) and Disco Boy, a European co-production drama starring Franz Rogowski. The film depicts the intertwined stories of Aleksei, a member of the French Foreign Legion and of Jomo, a guerrilla fighter in a village in the Niger Delta.
Born in southern Italy, Giacomo Abbruzzese grew up until the age of 18 in his hometown of Taranto. He studied film, television and multimedia production at the Università di Bologna. Abruzzese worked from 2008 to 2009 as a photographer in the Middle East. In 2011, he obtained a postgraduate diploma at the prestigious French film school of Le Fresnoy. A year later, he was invited to the Berlinale Talents program for young talents at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival.
