The GEM Lab and the Feminist Media Studio are hosting a lecture with guest speakers Bishnupriya Ghosh and Bhaskar Sarkar on March 24th, at 5:30 pm. Starting from the distinction between radical uncertainty and risk (uncertainty tamed in terms of probability theory), this talk offers a conceptual paradigm for two modes of speculation. Ghosh and Sarkar conclude with two instances of what they call "southern emergences" - cultural and political formations materializing from speculative practices in the Global South. Bishnupriya Ghosh and Bhaskar Sarkar currently teach in the English and Film and Media Departments at UC Santa Barbara.
